The lift gate supports work by using gas pressure or a spring-loaded mechanism to help lift and hold the liftgate open. When the liftgate is opened, the liftgate lift support expand and push against the weight of the liftgate, creating a counterforce that helps to support the weight of the liftgate. 

Applications of Lift Gate Supports

Over time, liftgate supports can become worn or damaged, which can cause the liftgate to become difficult to open or close, or to not stay open.
